[Vwdiesel] Oil pressure

Well, I pulled the oil pan and went for the rod bearings yesterday.  The old 
ones plastigauged within the spec for new parts.  I replaced them regardless.  
The crank looks fantastic.  I did notice in my parts box that I still had 
some new main bearing caps.  When investigating why, I realised that I had not 
changed the ones at the extremes of the crank.  My socket won't fit onto the 
main cap bolts due to collision with the aluminum seal retainers at the ends of 
the crank.  Is there an easy way to undo the bearing caps and redo them to the 
proper torque that?  Do I need to grind down a socket for clearance?
