Thanks, I think I will return the T and sender and try to get an adapter locally. Also, 
I've found from this link:

That an OEM 300F temp sender is available from a variety of cars, is proper M10x1, 
and much smaller, looks identical to 250F sender used for water. Only $3 at 
busdepot.com, part #049919563A. Much better than $20 for one that doesn't fit!

If anyone knows of a source in Canada for adapters, please let me know.
