[Vwdiesel] Excited first VW diesel car owner

A deal I was working on now for a couple of months, complicated by a bank
lien, has finally been settled in my favor and I am the excited new owner of
a 1991 Turbo 1.6 diesel Jetta.  Now to put it on the road and make it into a
veggie car at some point.

It needs some exhaust system work so I am thinking of putting in a large
2-1/2" system with a Corvair turbo style low restriction muffler. No cat or
resonator will be in the system.  I want max fuel economy consistent with
enough power to drive at 70-75 MPH on the highway.  The previous owner
reports an average about 55 MPG.  I hope to improve this.  The engine was
rebuilt about two years ago and I heard it cold start in -20C this winter
not being plugged in.  It took off first crank and the battery is five years
old.  It needs some fix up but the body is solid and the interior is in nice
shape.
