I had a vanagon once a couple years ago that I was dying to check the
mileage on.  I was very impressed with the mileage until it ran out of fuel
registering almost a half a tank.  It took me a little while and a fair
amount of checking to figure out why it had stalled out like that!  I'd
check the mileage sooner than later.

Not to worry Andrew , even though this is my first official full tank of
diesel, I did run it around the yard and garage parking lot quite a bit when
it was showing 1/8th-1/16th of a tank, so I feel the guage is probably
accurate at both "E" & "F" extremes........how linear it is inbetween is
anyones' guess however.  So far, it's nearly identical to my 88 Jetta 1.6L
TD........I could squeeze 725-750kms out of a tank,(I think I put about
45liters in @ a time if Ipushed it...... which figured out to about 49mpg
(imperial) as I recall.  Those figured might be off a little.......been a
while since I had the Jetta.
