[Vwdiesel] Re: Driving Alt after removal of a/cChuck Carnohan Chuck.Carnohan at itd.idaho.govThu Feb 3 14:14:27 EST 2005
I saw one somewhere on a forum where the guy had mounted the alt way up high in the engine compartment. It was a bastdardized AC mod. It looked like a good idea to get the alternator up out of the soup of road grime. Leave the Alt where it is. You will need to change the pully on the alt and use a different crank pully. I used the crank pully off of a 1.5 gasser, don't remember where the different alt pully was sourced from. Then all you have to do is find a belt that fits. The best way is to have a source of parts cars to mix and match. The belt run is a little long, but I seemed to have less problems with the alt loosening up. If you are picture capable on your email account I can see if the digital camera can get a picture of my setup.
