[Vwdiesel] YIKES! Is this head useable?

Got the head off to change the gasket, no real
problems with that, thank goodness.

However, I've got a question...

Is it really bad, bad but not that bad, or okay that
there are cracks between each of the exhaust and
intake valves?

For some reason, I seem to recall reading that this is
fairly normal.

Before I took the head off, the engine was running
just fine, had plenty of power etc.
