[Vwdiesel] '98 Jetta convesion stick/auto

Has anyone ever tried a conversion form manual to automatic transmission?

Got a nice '98 Jetta TDI with a manual 5-spd, but the wife's hip can't take
the pressure (of the clutch)
wondering if it's practical to convert it.

I figure it would require a ;
  Flexplate from a flywheel
  Console shifter
   transmission -diesel (seems kinda hard to find)

? tranny computer ?
 if so, is the wiring there for it?
