[Vwdiesel] Valve Train Wreck

After 4000K it started ticking- went spewwwww and stopped. Tbelt fine- not much warning. Why did the valve cups mostly all break? No apparent harm to the pistons but the head is toast. Recommendations on where to get new cups?
