This is a response from VW when I asked about New diesels: Dear Jeff, Thank you for inquiring to our Volkswagen website. We appreciate your interest in Volkswagen's TDI(r) diesel engine. We envision diesel-powered vehicles as a growing priority for our U.S. market in light of higher fuel prices and increased concern about greenhouse gas emissions. We are committed to meeting consumer demand for clean, high-efficiency diesel vehicles that offer excellent performance and value while conserving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Although, no diesel models are currently available, the Clean Diesel Jetta TDI will be offered in both Sedan and SportWagen body styles in late summer 2008. It will be certified for sale in all 50 states with a six-speed manual and six-speed DSG automatic transmission. The 2.0L four cylinder engine will deliver 140 hp, and 236 lbs. ft. of torque. Volkswagen hopes to offer the diesel on a broader model range that will be 50-state certified, however, no details have been released as of yet. Please keep in touch for possible updates. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Volkswagen Customer Care at 800-822-8987. Thank you for your submission. Heather Volktalk ***************************************
