[Vwdiesel] ALH - IP question

I acquired a '01 Jetta TDI (fully loaded) and fully exploded at 160K miles
missing timing belt. :)
I was told it has a broken rod, but haven't seen a hole in the block yet.
I'm guessing the t-belt had never been changed, they had bought the car with
104k miles.

Anyway, got a replacement engine from an '03 TDI but didn't pay attention to
whether it was an automatic or manual transmission.
It's rumored there is a difference in the injection pump.
Anyone know what that is?
