[Vwdiesel] help, runaway

the car is stock and was running good minus the leaking injectors and hole in downpipe. but i also noticed after the drive where it started to runaway the coolant overflow was really low, went down about an inch at least below minimum. what causes runaway. this is naturally aspirated. so is my injection pump beat?
