I have a memory of a window glass replacement where one of the tracks in my 91 jetta had some adjustment of track width determined on where you tightened the hold down nut's. if nothing else: to loosen the track hold down nuts you would get some movement in the track, see what was going on in the event something lodged in the track or rust bubble existed and allow you to make the appropriate correction.
