[Vwdiesel] pull start tdi

Pull started my 98 Jetta tdi a couple of months ago when the starter died.

Not to distract from my own question, but is it possible to do 
that--start it by pulling in gear?  Always wondered, never had occasion 
to find out.  Did it many times on the '80 and the '85.  Never tried on 
the '00 with all of the wires and sensors.
