  I have two of the VW dash, solar chargers.  Never could tell if it was 
really 
charging.  Way small amperage and solar cells are sensitive to shadowing, 
then make it a small output to start with...
   We bought the stuff to make a <10A charger at Dad's since the TDI's tend 

to eat power when parked.  Not unusual for the Golf not to start when 
rarely 
used.  We're both pushing the orchard to put in a several amp setup that 
has 
charging plugs/clamps sort of all over the shop/tractor shed area so every 
rig can be hooked up when not in use.   Should pay for the decreased 
battery 
deaths in a couple years.  Haven't convinced the uncles of that yet though.
