The real concern, as Bernie says, is the possible damage to the ECU.

It is NOT a sterio issue.  It's the magnetic clutch on the A/C compressor
turning on and off with sudden surging of electrical power.  The diode is
supposed to control that.

Not so! Any audio system is susceptible, as is the ECU and other  
electronics. Fix the problem!
