A split boot might be a decent temporary solution provided that you can
find the right sized one!  I went looking for a split boot as a temp.
measure when I noticed mine was torn after driving nearly 1,000 mi.
nonstop one winter.  I was gonna put a split boot on for the return leg,
but _none_ of the auto parts stores I went to (including some big,
"warehouse" stores) had the correctly-sized boots for my Audi.  
Maybe you'll have better luck.
