Oh, and those Chryslers. They also had optional swivel seats. Open the
door, and the seat would turn out to make getting in and out easier.
And don't forget those square steering wheels!
And then, I thought the coolest of the cool: Ram-air manifolds.
Two four barrel carburetors each carb supplying one bank of cylinders from
the opposite side of the car. Waaaaaaaaaaaay cool.
When I graduated from college and was in my first teaching job, I came
terribly close to buying a new car. The one new car that I came oh-so-close
to plunking down real dollars for was a dark green Plymouth two door hard
top. The local Plymouth dealer had this one left over and the reason why it
was a leftover was that it had a 426 Hemi under the hood.
In the end, I sold the Triumph TR3 that had carried me through college and
bought an Austin Healy 3000, which was arguably the worst automobile ever
invented. A year later it got traded in on a BMW 1600 Alpina and the real
craziness began.
