Barry, first I'd say that even though the windscreen was replaced,
that's probably the leak. However, can't hurt to check the area under
the hood near the fuse box/ventilation unit. You will want to check to
make sure the drains on either side close to the windscreen aren't
plegged with leaves, etc.
On the shifter, there is a plastic retainer in the end of the shift
linkage at the trans that tends to wear out after a while.
About the scraping noise, not sure.
